New York Peace Insitute is offering a 3-day training on Tier II/III Restorative Practices: Responding to Harm and Reintegration. We will begin with a review of Restorative Justice theory and principles and then transition to the use of restorative approaches to respond to harm. We look at different responses to shame and how to integrate trauma-informed strategies into restorative processes. We then delve into facilitating harm circles in the context, including how to build restorative responses into existing programs using incentives.

The training is experiential with the goal of both skill-building and beginning a culture shift from punitive, permissive, or neglectful to restorative. Throughout the training, we work with participants to identify ways to integrate restorative theory and strategies into day-to-day practice. By the end of the training, participants have a conceptual understanding of Restorative Justice and how it differs from retributive justice, as well as practical skills and techniques for using Restorative Practices to respond to harm effectively and restoratively in their programs.
