Our 5-day Basic Mediation Training lays the groundwork for anyone interested in becoming a mediator, enhancing their conflict resolution skills, or working to become a volunteer mediator with our New York Peace Institute or CLUSTER. During the training we explore questions like:
- What is my role as a mediator?
- What are the values of mediation?
- What makes a successful mediation?
- What are the core skills of mediation?
Our in-person BMT usually costs $1600, but because of Covid-19, we have an opportunity to offer this BMT, in collaboration with the Westchester Rockland Mediation Centers of CLUSTER at the significantly reduced price of $250.
This in-person Basic Mediation Training is the only one being offered right now that will qualify you to become a certified mediator and to join a CDRC volunteer roster at New York Peace Institute or at CLUSTER.
The tented outdoor facilities provide an opportunity to be safe and socially distanced without compromising everything that makes New York Peace Institute's BMT so special, effective, and fun!
Through group discussion, hands-on exercises, lecture, and role-play, you’ll have the chance to engage with these and other critical questions, and practice new skills with support and feedback from experienced mediators and trainers. Our training isn’t typical: pop culture, drawing, movement, discussion and role play are central features. And, because we’re in the business of training professional mediators, we structure our program to ensure that you have lots of time to practice the skills you're learning, ask questions, and wrestle challenging concepts to the ground. The training is widely recognized and individuals who participate are eligible to apply for our Apprenticeship Program or for CLUSTER's.
